A Border name, and a literal one: a byname for a man of notable strength. It belonged to one of the reiving families of the Anglo-Scottish frontier.

The Gaelic equivalent Mac Ghille Laidir, ‘son of the strong lad’, was sometimes anglicised to the same spelling.

Bestow the name a title it never had

An honorific Lord or Lady certificate in the Armstrong name, hand-finished and sealed, with a square metre of Scottish woodland dedicated alongside it. A novelty, magnificently done — and a good deal more fun than a family tree.
