Jack was a pet form of John, probably through the French Jacques or the diminutive Jankin. It became so common as a generic term for a man that it survives in lumberjack, steeplejack and jack-of-all-trades.
So Jackson and Johnson are, at some remove, the same name.
Bestow the name a title it never had
An honorific Lord or Lady certificate in the Jackson name, hand-finished and sealed, with a square metre of Scottish woodland dedicated alongside it. A novelty, magnificently done — and a good deal more fun than a family tree.
