Rare, and most probably a shortened Beaumont — Old French beau and mont, the fair hill — one of the locational names carried into England after 1066 and attached there to more than one settlement.
Clipped forms of this kind usually start as a clerk’s abbreviation and harden into a surname once a family stops correcting it. The English Beam, from Old English bēam, a tree or a post, is a different name that has occasionally been written the same way.
Too few early bearers are recorded to trace a single line, and this entry does not claim one.
Bestow the name a title it never had
An honorific Lord or Lady certificate in the Beaum name, hand-finished and sealed, with a square metre of Scottish woodland dedicated alongside it. A novelty, magnificently done — and a good deal more fun than a family tree.
